Dairy Substitutes

I know there are tons of these lists out there, but I wanted to share substitutes I've actually tried and can comment on. See below for my tried and true substitutes, and perhaps some not-so-successful attempts that you can learn from.

Cream Cheese

Trader Joe's: This has some great flavor, but is a tad grainy if using as a spread. However in savory dishes I think it would be wonderful choice.

Daiya: The texture of this is perfect! I've only tried the plain s far, and honestly the flavor is very good too, although I found it to be rather sweet. If using this plain on a bagel it may be too much, but as a sub in sweet/baked dishes it is a good choice.

Milks

Soy: I've had a few although Soy Dream was my favorite, followed by Silk.

Almond: Almond Breeze and Almond Dream are my typical go-tos, but So Delicious is good as well.

Coconut: So Delicious and the brand Trader Joe's carry are both quite good. Almond Breeze also made a coconut almond milk that was quite tasty.

Sour Cream

Avocado: Seriously! Add a good amount of lemon juice and mash it up really well, and this will satisfy your cravings. Works well for home made tzatziki sauce as well.

Kite Hill Greek Yogurt: The plain is a perfect sub, although a bit thinner. This can easily be worked with though and I plan on testing it out for a variety of uses. It was a bit tricky to find, though.

Cheese

Kite Hill Soft Ripened: This is a delicious brie substitute! It's not perfect, but by your third bite, you will be so deep down the rabbit hole it doesn't matter. I've brought this to wine nights and it was devoured before the real brie, that's how good it is. I have not baked this, but heard it is possible (although it will be more like a baked custard than gooey brie).
